Milliken, Colo. updated their most used and oldest park with three custom all-steel shelters to give residents and visitors with an outdoor gathering space.
The Customer and Their Challenge
Lola Park is the town of Milliken’s oldest and most used park. It did not have any picnic shelters or tables for people to gather and enjoy the beautiful park environment. Also, with it being home to Milliken’s annual Beef N’ Bean Celebration, the park was in need of shelter and site amenities. In collaboration with our SRP Certified Partner, Go Play, Inc., Superior helped them create a more aesthetically-pleasing environment for the community to gather.
The Superior Solution and Results
“It was their main focus to have equipment that looked modern to freshen and reinvigorate the park,” Jennifer VanWormer of Go Play, Inc. said.
The Superior solution consisted of three shelters and numerous site amenities, some of which were custom because the grounds director wanted to have a custom look in Lola Park.
The two picnic shelters include a 20’ Square All-Steel Duo-Top Structure and a 30’ x 55’ All-Steel Custom Hip End Duo-Top Structure. Both feature a premium quad column design that help enrich the custom look.
“The duo-top shelters give a really upgraded look to the standard square shelter style. They elected to upgrade their columns on the shelters as well to give them a more architectural feel,” VanWormer said.
A 16’ Square All-Steel Gable End Structure was customized into a port-o-let shelter. It was designed to match the other shelters and give the port-o-lets a more concealed appearance.
There are a variety of portable rectangular picnic tables underneath the duo-top shelters that provide people with comfortable places to gather and relax. Throughout the park are Superior’s metro trash receptacles and classic modern benches that have been customized with “Lola Park” on the backrest.
“Milliken liked the amenities so much they had us customize benches for all of their parks,” VanWormer said.
Overall, this was a successful project for the town of Milliken.
“The park turned out beautifully and is a great improvement for the town,” VanWormer said.
